Site Overview

Hon Mo is the Cu Lao Cham Marine Park's premier macro diving site, a sloping reef and rubble habitat that supports exceptional nudibranch diversity and a fascinating collection of rare and camouflaged marine species. The site transitions from hard coral reef at shallow depths to rubble and sandy substrate at deeper levels, creating diverse habitat zones that concentrate different species communities. Nudibranch diversity is outstanding, with numerous chromodoris, phyllidia, and aeolid species documented across the reef and rubble surfaces. Frogfish in various colour morphs perch on rubble pieces and coral bommies, their camouflage blending perfectly with the surroundings. Seahorses and ghost pipefish are occasionally found among gorgonian branches and wire coral structures, rewarding patient macro observers with rare and photogenic encounters. Flatworms display their vivid colour patterns on the rubble surfaces, adding to the invertebrate spectacle. The shallow depth profile allows extended bottom times ideal for the patient searching that productive macro diving demands.
