    Site Overview

Phu Quoc Coral Park is a designated conservation area protecting some of the healthiest and most extensive table acropora formations in the Gulf of Thailand, making it both an outstanding dive site and a success story for Vietnamese marine conservation. The shallow reef flat at depths of 3 to 14 metres is covered in massive table corals that create an underwater forest of branching structures supporting diverse reef communities. Clownfish populations are exceptional, with multiple species hosting in anemones scattered throughout the coral formations, creating the photogenic encounters that make this site popular with underwater photographers and snorkellers alike. Butterflyfish and parrotfish patrol the coral formations in constant activity, while sea cucumbers process the sandy substrate between coral bommies. The conservation status has allowed coral recovery and growth that demonstrates the effectiveness of marine protected areas in restoring reef health. The shallow depth profile and calm conditions make the Coral Park an ideal site for beginners, training dives, and snorkelling, with the coral formations visible from the surface in the clear shallow waters. The site serves as an important educational resource, with dive operators incorporating marine conservation messaging into their briefings and encouraging divers to observe the remarkable recovery that protection enables.

    Dive Briefing

"Descend to the reef flat at approximately 8 metres and orient to the extensive table coral formations that characterise the conservation area. Swim along the coral gardens observing the diverse reef fish communities that the healthy corals support. Clownfish colonies are concentrated throughout the reef in their host anemones, with multiple species present and easily observed at depths of 5 to 12 metres. Butterflyfish work the coral formations for food, while parrotfish graze on algae maintaining the coral health. Navigate carefully among the table coral formations maintaining excellent buoyancy to avoid any contact with the fragile structures. Sea cucumbers and sea stars are found on the sandy patches between coral bommies. The shallow sections at 3 to 6 metres feature the brightest coral growth visible from the surface, ideal for snorkellers and the safety stop. Check isolated coral heads for juvenile fish, moray eels, and nudibranchs sheltering in the branches. Conclude with a shallow exploration of the reef flat before surfacing near the dive boat."
