Santos, Guarujá, and Bertioga form the Baixada Santista diving region offering Brazil's most extensive collection of accessible shipwrecks alongside rocky reef diving and excellent macro opportunities. The Naufrágio do Ipiranga, a 1918 passenger ship at 18-28 metres, is the crown jewel with its huge penetrable structure, batfish, and barracuda. The Rio Negro bulk carrier at 20-30 metres hosts giant groupers and lionfish while the Tocantins tugboat at 15 metres provides excellent macro diving with seahorses. Ilha dos Arvoredos off Guarujá offers rocky reefs with frogfish, nudibranchs, and outstanding night diving. Bertioga's purposely sunk artificial reefs including a retired military tank create unique habitats teeming with macro life. The proximity to São Paulo makes this the most accessible wreck diving circuit in Brazil, serving the largest metropolitan area in South America with diverse underwater experiences for all certification levels.

Getting There

Fly to São Paulo (GRU/CGH) and drive 1.5 hours to Santos, Guarujá, or Bertioga via the Anchieta-Imigrantes highway system. Regular bus services connect São Paulo to all three cities. The region is easily accessible for weekend trips from the capital.
