Vitória and Guarapari in Espírito Santo state offer some of Brazil's most underrated diving with a remarkable combination of offshore pinnacles, historical wrecks, and seasonal megafauna encounters. The standout site is Ilha Escalvada off Guarapari where a dramatic pinnacle attracts massive schools of sweepers, groupers, and nurse sharks with seasonal manta rays and whale sharks appearing from July to October. The Naufrágio Bellucia wreck, a 1903 Italian transatlantic liner at 20-28 metres, provides one of Brazil's largest wreck diving experiences with huge resident groupers and penetrable sections. Ilha do Boi near Vitória offers excellent macro diving with frogfish, seahorses, and nudibranchs on sloping walls. The remote Trindade and Martim Vaz islands offer pristine seamount diving with hammerhead sharks and giant pelagics, though access is strictly limited to scientific and military expeditions. The region combines urban convenience with surprisingly wild diving experiences along the southeast Brazilian coast.

Getting There

Fly to Vitória/Eurico de Aguiar Salles Airport (VIX) with direct connections from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Guarapari is 50 kilometres south via the BR-101 highway, accessible by car or bus in about one hour.
