Diving Griffon Vulture Point (Cres)

Site Overview

Griffon Vulture Point (Cres) is a reef dive site in Kvarner Gulf, Croatia, set in the clear, fish-rich waters of the Adriatic Sea. Griffon Vulture Point is a rocky reef off Cres named for the Griffon vultures that nest on the nearby cliffs. The clear water and rocky slopes hold conger eels, octopus and a healthy reef fish community. It is an accessible site for a range of levels, with easy navigation along the reef. Visibility is excellent, making it a relaxed, scenic dive. The topside wildlife - vultures and dolphins in the area - adds to the experience. It is a good natural complement to the Lina wreck for a Cres-based day. Conditions are typical of the Croatian coast: visibility generally runs from 15 to 35 metres, the current is low and the water temperature ranges between 14 and 25 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth. The marine life is classic Adriatic, centred on conger eel, common octopus, two-banded seabream, with the full community described below for those planning a dive.
