Site Overview

Mreznica River (Karlovac) is a river dive site in Inland Freshwater Sites, Croatia, set in the clear, fish-rich waters of the Adriatic Sea. The Mrežnica is a crystal-clear karst river near Karlovac, with cascading travertine barriers and submerged greenery. The shallow, scenic water is perfect for relaxed, photographic freshwater dives close to Zagreb. Carp and chub patrol the pools, and freshwater sponges colonise the travertine. Current varies with the cascades, so sites are chosen for calm, deep pools. It is a serene alternative to the sea and a good skills refresher. It is the standout inland freshwater dive in continental Croatia. Conditions are typical of the Croatian coast: visibility generally runs from 3 to 10 metres, the current is moderate and the water temperature ranges between 8 and 18 degrees Celsius depending on season and depth.
