The Saronic Gulf sits on Athens’ doorstep and is the most accessible diving region in Greece, combining wreck diving, reefs and a unique thermal lake within an hour of the capital. Aegina’s Avantis III and Poros’ Danae are purpose-sunk and historic wrecks that have become artificial reefs crowded with groupers and barracuda, while Hydra’s Bisti Reef and Salamis’ Wall offer clean walls and gorgonians close to the city. The Athens Riviera’s Vouliagmeni Lake is a mineral-rich thermal lake with limestone formations and a freshwater-marine mix, dived only with guides. Cape Sounion pairs a reef dive with the Temple of Poseidon as a backdrop, and Schinias Bay is a macro training site. With fast ferries from Piraeus and a year-round dive scene, the Saronic is perfect for city-break divers and those who want history and easy logistics.

Getting There

Fly into Athens International Airport (ATH) and take a metro or taxi to Piraeus, then a fast ferry to Aegina, Poros or Hydra. The Athens Riviera and Cape Sounion are reached by car or bus along the coast. Most centres run transfers from the ports.
