Central Greece’s diving centres on the long island of Evia, the Pagasetic Gulf at Volos and the archaeological waters near Delphi. Evia’s Lichades Islands hold seamount pinnacles rising from deep water with tuna, barracuda and amberjack, and Karystos Wall is a steep drop-off with sea fans and groupers. Volos’ Pagasetic Gulf is a gentle, enclosed sea with ancient amphora fields, Byzantine anchors and the Navarino-style wrecks, rich in macro life. Near Delphi, Galaxidi offers scattered pottery and ship parts for an archaeological dive alongside seahorses and octopus. With easy access from Athens and Thessaloniki and a strong sense of history, this region is a varied, under-the-radar destination.

Getting There

Drive from Athens (1-2 hours) to Evia via the Chalkis bridge, or to Volos (3 hours) and Galaxidi (2.5 hours) on the mainland. A rental car is essential; dive centres run harbour transfers.
