About Hagatna Bay & Asan

Hagatna Bay and Asan offer a compelling combination of WWII historical wreck diving and vibrant reef systems in the central west coast of Guam. The shallow waters of Hagatna Bay contain numerous WWII landing craft, barges, and even Sherman tanks that were abandoned or sunk during the 1944 liberation of Guam. These war relics, now heavily encrusted with corals and sponges at depths of 5 to 20 metres, have become thriving artificial reefs teeming with lionfish, nudibranchs, and juvenile fish. The nearby Asan Cut provides exciting channel drift diving with strong currents attracting reef sharks, big-eye trevally, tuna, and barracuda. Asan Reef slopes gently with abundant macro life including pipefish, frogfish, and seahorses, and is known as a cleaning station for green sea turtles. Adelup Point adds rocky reef diving with schooling jacks and excellent night diving opportunities. The area is deeply connected to Guam's wartime history, with the Asan Beach unit of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park providing above-water context for the underwater experience.

Getting There

Hagatna Bay and Asan are located immediately south of the capital city of Hagatna on Guam's central west coast. The area is accessible via Marine Corps Drive and Route 1. Asan Beach is part of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park and has parking facilities. Most dive operators provide boat access from the harbor or shore entries from designated beach areas. The drive from Tumon Bay takes approximately 15 minutes.
