Site Overview

El Grillo is a 94 metre British oil tanker bombed in 1944 and now one of Iceland’s premier wreck dives, resting upright and largely intact at 25 to 45 metres in Seyðisfjörður. Its bow and stern are still recognisable, the massive propeller is a highlight and the hull is covered in sea anemones, cod and huge Atlantic wolffish. The cold, clear fjord water and the scale of the wreck make it unforgettable for advanced drysuit divers, with a short boat ride from the rainbow town of Seyðisfjörður. Mild current and the depth demand good gas planning and buoyancy, and penetration is for trained technical divers only. For wreck enthusiasts, El Grillo is a bucket-list Icelandic dive that combines history, size and abundant life, guided and managed for safety by local operators.
