The sheltered water holds sea slugs, nudibranchs, urchins and other small life, with the occasional lumpsucker and cod. Depths are shallow, usually under 15 metres, and water is 3 to 10°C with a drysuit mandatory, making it forgiving for newer cold-water divers. "Take the ferry from Stykkishólmur to Flatey and meet your guide at the village. Kit up at the calm bay and enter from the shore. Descend onto the sandy and rocky bottom, controlling fins to avoid silting, and search slowly for sea slugs, nudibranchs and urchins. There is mild current, so swim into it on exit. Water is 3 to 10°C, so monitor warmth. Stay shallow, complete a safety stop and exit at the beach. A local guide manages the simple entry and the relaxed profile, ideal for training and macro photography in the sheltered bay.
