Site Overview

Hornstrandir is a completely untouched nature reserve at the tip of the Westfjords, and its diving is true expedition cold-water exploration. The Arctic-type kelp forests and sea urchin barrens are pristine, with seals, the occasional bowhead or humpback whale near the surface and abundant wolffish and cod in the reefs. There is no infrastructure, so diving is expedition-only with a fully equipped boat and guide, and water is 3 to 9°C with a drysuit mandatory. Moderate current and surge add to the commitment, and weather windows are short. For the most adventurous divers, Hornstrandir offers Iceland at its wildest—untouched, remote and teeming with life, a once-in-a-lifetime wilderness dive guided with complete self-sufficiency.
