Site Overview

Sundahöfn is Reykjavik’s working harbour and a surprisingly rich dive spot, home to the sunken tugboat Sundabáturinn at 12 to 20 metres and the Elliðaeyjarsund wrecks. These structures are heavily encrusted with sea anemones and kelp and attract resident lumpsuckers, cod and flatfish, making the harbour a favourite for night dives and macro photography right in the capital. A short boat ride from the city centre puts you on the wrecks, and the long summer light means near-daylight night dives are possible. Water is 4 to 11°C and a drysuit is mandatory, with mild current and boat traffic the main considerations.
