Puglia wraps the heel of Italy with Adriatic walls, the Tremiti Islands and the white cliffs of the Salento. The Tremiti offer the sheer wall of Punta Secca, the glassfish cave of Cala degli Inglesi and the Enotria wreck. The Salento, around Santa Maria di Leuca and Gallipoli, is dramatic: the Corvine wall with huge groupers, the air-pocket Grotta del Soffio and the Francesco Crispi and Torpediniera wrecks. Otranto adds the Badessa reef and the flooded Zinzulusa cave, while the Gargano peninsula contributes the Vieste pinnacles and the Queen steamer. Warm, clear and fishy, Puglia is a southern Adriatic gem. The region rewards careful planning and respects the strong Italian marine-protection rules, offering rewarding diving for a range of Mediterranean experience levels.

Getting There

Fly into Bari (BRI) or Brindisi (BDS), then drive to the Gargano, Tremiti ferry, Salento or Otranto. Dive bases sit in Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Gallipoli, Leuca and Otranto.
