Sardinia is a diver’s paradise of granite walls, emerald water and one of the strictest marine-protection regimes in the Mediterranean. The Maddalena Archipelago offers the Spargiotto pinnacle with massive groupers and the Tahiti-clear walls of Punta Coticcio. Tavolara and Molara add the sheer Papa wall, while the Cagliari and Villasimius reserve guards the Isola dei Cavoli walls. Alghero’s Grotta di Nereo is the largest underwater cave in the Mediterranean, and Cala Gonone’s Bue Marino cave is a guided wonder. The Costa Smeralda and the protected Asinara island close a coastline of staggering clarity and life. The region rewards careful planning and respects the strong Italian marine-protection rules, offering rewarding diving for a range of Mediterranean experience levels.

Getting There

Fly into Olbia (OLB), Alghero (AHO) or Cagliari (CAG), then drive the coast. Dive bases sit in La Maddalena, Olbia, Villasimius, Alghero and Cala Gonone.
