Tuscany’s coast and islands offer a gentle, scenic side of Italian diving centred on the promontory of Monte Argentario, the island of Giglio, the Giannutri islets and the larger island of Elba. Argentario’s Secca della Ficarella and Isola Rossa are draped in red gorgonians with barracuda, eagle rays and groupers, while Giannutri’s steep walls hold sea fans and big fish. Elba, Napoleon’s island, is a granite jewel with the Capo Sant’Andrea walls, the Elviscot wreck dense with seahorses and the Formiche della Zanca towers. Livorno and the Meloria Shoals add shallow reefs and octopus for training. Sheltered, warm and full of life, this region is ideal for building Mediterranean skills.

Getting There

Fly into Pisa (PSA) or Florence (FLR), then drive to Porto Santo Stefano, Giglio or the Piombino ferry to Elba. Dive bases sit in Porto Ercole, Giglio and Marina di Campo.
