The Grotta di Nereo near Alghero is the largest underwater cave in the Mediterranean, a cathedral of rock with tunnels, arches and vibrant orange corals. Red coral, gorgonians, giant groupers and lobsters fill the chambers, and the clear Sardinian water amplifies the drama. It is a favourite for photographers and a satisfying intermediate dive that combines cave wonder with staggering biodiversity.
