Aqaba's North Coast and City Front is the original heart of Jordanian diving featuring some of the most iconic and accessible dive sites in the entire Gulf of Aqaba. This stretch of coastline runs from the city centre southward to the Marine Science Station and includes world renowned sites such as the Cedar Pride wreck the Japanese Garden and the Eel Garden. The Cedar Pride is arguably the most famous dive site in Jordan consisting of a seventy four metre Lebanese freighter deliberately scuttled in nineteen eighty five that now rests on its port side at ten to twenty five metres covered in dense soft coral growth massive groupers and moray eels. The Japanese Garden offers calm shallow coral gardens perfect for beginners with table acroporas anemonefish and morays while the Eel Garden features hundreds of garden eels extending from the sandy slope. The Power Station site near the cooling water outlet provides superb macro diving with seahorses frogfish and cuttlefish. Most sites are accessible directly from shore making this area the most logistically convenient diving zone in Aqaba with multiple operators equipment rental and training facilities within walking distance.

Getting There

Aqaba is accessible by air via King Hussein International Airport with domestic flights from Amman taking approximately one hour. The city is connected to Amman by the JETT bus service taking approximately four hours along the Desert Highway. International visitors can also arrive via the Wadi Araba border crossing from Israel or by ferry from Nuweiba in Egypt. Most dive sites on the North Coast are walkable from the city centre or a short taxi ride away.
