Failaka Island is Kuwait's most historically significant diving destination offering an extraordinary concentration of underwater military wrecks from the nineteen ninety one Gulf War combined with ancient archaeological heritage dating to the Hellenistic period. The island's surrounding waters contain deliberately sunk military hardware including an Iraqi T-55 main battle tank a construction crane and barge complex a concrete carrying cement barge a traditional wooden dhow and an Iraqi patrol boat all resting at accessible depths between eight and twenty five metres. These war relics have been transformed into thriving artificial reefs heavily encrusted with marine growth including gorgonian fans soft corals and sponge colonies that attract diverse fish populations. The scattered debris field of ammunition boxes landing craft remains and other military hardware creates an underwater museum unlike any other in the Persian Gulf. Beyond the modern military heritage the submerged portions of ancient Ikaros Failaka's Greek settlement offer archaeological interest though these sites are primarily accessed through snorkelling rather than formal diving. Getting There

Failaka Island is accessed by ferry or private boat from Kuwait City with the crossing taking approximately one to two hours depending on vessel type. Several dive operators in Kuwait City organise dedicated day trips to the island including boat transport equipment and guided diving. The island itself has limited infrastructure so most diving is conducted from live aboard style dive boats that anchor near the wreck sites. International visitors typically fly into Kuwait International Airport and arrange transfers through their dive operator.
