Qaruh Island is Kuwait's southernmost offshore island and widely regarded as offering the clearest water and most pristine coral environments in the country. The island's remote position away from coastal sediment and urban runoff creates visibility conditions that can reach twenty metres a rarity in the Persian Gulf allowing divers to fully appreciate the extensive hard coral beds and white sand environments that surround the island. Qaruh Coral Gardens feature vibrant table acropora formations hawksbill turtles feeding on sponge growth and large schools of bannerfish that create spectacular visual displays. The Qaruh Wall on the eastern side provides a small but rewarding drop off where barracuda jacks and trevally patrol the edge hunting in the current swept waters. The island's designation as a protected natural area has helped preserve the coral communities and marine biodiversity making it a critical conservation site within Kuwait's maritime territory. Diving at Qaruh represents the closest experience to classic tropical reef diving available in Kuwait with the combination of clear water healthy corals and turtle encounters creating a compelling destination for dedicated reef divers.

Getting There

Qaruh Island is the most remote of Kuwait's diving islands requiring a longer boat journey of approximately two to three hours from Kuwait City or the southern coast. Due to the distance most operators require a minimum group size and plan full day excursions with multiple dives. The island is a protected area with restricted access and all visiting divers must be accompanied by licensed operators. Kuwait International Airport serves as the gateway for international visitors who then connect through city based dive operators for island trip arrangements. The longer crossing time means trips typically depart early morning and return in the late afternoon.
