Huvadhoo Atoll (Gaafu Alif & Gaafu Dhaalu) – Maldives Dive Region
About Huvadhoo Atoll (Gaafu Alif & Gaafu Dhaalu)
Huvadhoo Atoll is the Maldives' second-largest atoll and one of the most exciting emerging pelagic diving destinations in the Indian Ocean. The atoll's deep channels attract spectacular pelagic encounters including scalloped hammerheads at Nilandhoo Kandu, massive schools of barracuda and dogtooth tuna at Villingili Kandu, and steep soft-coral drop-offs at Koodoo Kandu. The Raa-Faru area hosts manta cleaning stations and occasional whale shark visits. Most remarkably, the nearby Fuvahmulah Tear Drop (accessed from Huvadhoo itineraries) delivers deep walls with hammerhead schools, oceanic whitetips, and frequent tiger shark encounters, establishing the region as an emerging world-class pelagic destination. With very few liveaboards and minimal resort development, Huvadhoo offers exclusive diving in an environment that remains largely undiscovered by mainstream diving tourism.
