Scuba Diving Regions in Puerto Rico

From world-class walls to muck diving havens, discover the unique character of each regional cluster.

    Regional Diversity

Diving in Puerto Rico is excellent year-round, but the prime conditions are traditionally found from December to May during the dry season. During these months, horizontal visibility is at its absolute maximum, and the sea conditions are generally calmest, especially for the more exposed offshore trips to Mona and Desecheo. The winter months (January to March) are particularly special as they mark the migration of humpback whales through the Mona Passage. The summer and autumn months (June to November) bring warmer water temperatures, reaching up to 29°C, though this is also the period of higher humidity and the Atlantic hurricane season. For many, the shoulder months of May and November offer a perfect balance of great diving and fewer crowds. Water temperatures range from a comfortable 26°C in February to 29°C in September.

    Planning Tips

Many regions are seasonally dependent. For Puerto Rico, the best diving conditions are usually spread across different months depending on the archipelago or coast.
