About KwaZulu-Natal – North Coast Pelagics

The Richards Bay and North Coast Pelagics region offers South Africa's most remote and seldom-dived offshore pinnacles, attracting massive pelagic species including yellowfin tuna, wahoo, sailfish, and marlin in the warm Agulhas Current waters. This is frontier diving – deep offshore pinnacles rising from the ocean floor, accessible only by boat with extended transit times, rewarding experienced divers with encounters with the ocean's largest predators and game fish. Zambezi bull sharks patrol the pinnacles alongside schools of giant trevally and barracuda, while sailfish and marlin may be encountered snorkelling in the blue water above. The region's limited diving infrastructure and remote location mean that very few divers ever explore these waters, preserving pristine marine environments and genuine discovery diving. Richards Bay provides practical accommodation and harbour facilities, while nearby Zululand game reserves offer Big Five safari combinations.
