Andalusia’s Mediterranean coast blends the protected volcanic seascape of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park with the dramatic walls of the Costa Tropical. Cabo de Gata offers clear water, healthy Posidonia meadows, groupers, barracuda, morays and sea fans on sites like Punta de la Media Naranja and the Cueva del Francés swim-through. Around La Herradura, the Cerro Gordo and Punta de la Mona walls drop into gorgonian-covered depths with seahorses, while several small wrecks such as the SS Delfos add variety. Warm, sheltered water and volcanic geology make this a rewarding, uncrowded region. This region rewards careful planning and respects Spain’s marine-protection rules, offering rewarding diving across a wide range of experience levels through a long and varied season.

Getting There

Fly into Almería (LEI), Granada (GRX) or Málaga (AGP); Cabo de Gata is dived from San José and Las Negras, while the Costa Tropical is dived from La Herradura and Almuñécar.
