In Suakin town, local restaurants serve fresh Red Sea fish grilled over charcoal, ful medames, asida (sorghum porridge), and mulah (stew) with okra and lamb. Street food vendors offer fresh sugarcane juice, karkadeh, and samosas. The cuisine reflects the town's historical role as a major Red Sea trading port with influences from Arabia, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. Liveaboard vessels operating in the southern region maintain their full international and Sudanese menu while incorporating fresh provisions sourced from Suakin's daily fish market.

The Suakin Archipelago and Southern Coast represent the frontier of Sudanese Red Sea diving, extending south from the historic port of Suakin toward the Eritrean border. The Suakin Archipelago is accessed from Suakin port or Port Sudan by liveaboard vessel. Suakin is approximately 60 km south of Port Sudan by road, with a small local airport. The southern reefs extend toward the Eritrean border and are reached by extended liveaboard crossings of 2-3 hours from Suakin. Dar El Gani Reef requires the longest crossing and is only visited on specialised expedition itineraries.
