Scuba Diving Regions in The Bahamas
From world-class walls to muck diving havens, discover the unique character of each regional cluster.
Regional Diversity
Diving in The Bahamas is excellent year-round, but the experience changes with the seasons. The peak season is generally from November to May, during the dry season, when visibility is at its absolute best and the weather is sunny and pleasant. This is also the prime time for specific shark encounters: Great Hammerheads are most common in Bimini from December to March, while Oceanic Whitetips are found off Cat Island from April to June. The summer months (June to August) offer the warmest water temperatures, reaching 29°C, and extremely calm seas, which are ideal for reaching remote reefs and the Out Islands. However, this period also marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks in September and October. Water temperatures range from a low of 24°C in February to a high of 29°C in September, making a 3mm to 5mm wetsuit appropriate depending on the season and depth of your dives.
Planning Tips
Many regions are seasonally dependent. For The Bahamas, the best diving conditions are usually spread across different months depending on the archipelago or coast.
