Scuba Diving Regions in The Maldives
From world-class walls to muck diving havens, discover the unique character of each regional cluster.
Regional Diversity
The Maldives offers excellent diving throughout the year, but conditions are influenced by two distinct monsoon seasons. The Northeast Monsoon (Iruvai), from December to April, brings the calmest seas and clearest visibility, particularly on the eastern side of the atolls. The Southwest Monsoon (Hulhangu), from May to November, brings more wind and rain, but also higher concentrations of plankton, which attracts more whale sharks and manta rays, especially to sites like Hanifaru Bay. Water temperatures are consistently warm, averaging between 26°C and 29°C.
Planning Tips
Many regions are seasonally dependent. For The Maldives, the best diving conditions are usually spread across different months depending on the archipelago or coast.
