The western Ralik chain holds Enewetak and Ujelang, two of the most remote and rarely visited atolls in the entire Marshall Islands. Enewetak was a major nuclear-test site and still has some diveable reef, though access remains strictly limited by residual contamination monitoring and ongoing military activity, with only a few specialist operators permitted each year. Ujelang is essentially untouched, with migratory pelagics, reef and silvertip sharks and mantas, and very rare visits by exploratory liveaboards that treat it as a true frontier. Both atolls offer a powerful sense of isolation and a frontier experience for self-sufficient expedition divers, with pristine reefs, enormous fish life and almost no dive pressure at the far western edge of the country.

Getting There

Enewetak and Ujelang are reached by expedition liveaboard or charter from Majuro, very long ocean crossings in the far west of the Ralik chain. Access is limited by residual contamination monitoring, military activity and the sheer remoteness, so only exploratory expeditions visit.
