About Pentecost & Ambrym (Outer Islands – Remote)

Pentecost and Ambrym are remote outer islands where Vanuatu's volcanic origins are on full display, both above and below the water. Pentecost Island Wall is a sheer west-coast drop-off with pelagics, grey reef sharks, dogtooth tuna and occasional hammerheads, rarely dived and best reached by expedition. Ambrym's black-sand slopes and pinnacles are a muck-diver's dream, with frogfish, ghost pipefish and nudibranchs around warm volcanic vents, while the Ambrym Outer Wall is a pristine gorgonian face with possible mantas. Loltong Passage funnels schooling jacks, tuna and reef sharks through a channel. This is frontier diving for experienced travellers who prize isolation and unique volcanic macro.

Getting There

Reach Pentecost and Ambrym by domestic flight from Port Vila or Santo to Craig Cove (AMB) or Longana (LNB), then by lodge boat. Many sites, especially the Pentecost Wall and Loltong Passage, are best dived from a liveaboard or private expedition vessel due to minimal land infrastructure.
