Tanna is Vanuatu's adventure island, famous for the accessible Yasur volcano and a surprising variety of dives. The Blue Cave is a limestone cavern reached by a short swim-through, lit by intense blue refraction and home to glassfish and flashlight fish, while the Tanna Outer Reef Wall is a pristine drop-off with grey and silvertip sharks, tuna and gorgonians. White Grass Reef is a calm garden for training and macro, and Shark Alley is a baited dive with grey reef sharks, whitetips and trevally at 25 to 35 m. The black-sand slopes near Yasur offer unique volcanic macro dives with garden eels and seahorses. Tanna blends frontier diving with one of the most spectacular land experiences in the Pacific.

Getting There

Fly into White Grass Airport (TNU) from Port Vila, then transfer to Lenakel or the east-coast lodges. Dive sites are reached by boat in 20 to 40 minutes or, for the Blue Cave and White Grass, by a short shore or shallow entry. The volcano is a separate land excursion.
