Electric Nose (Hon Mot) – Nha Trang Dive Site

Site Overview

Electric Nose is a dramatic submerged pinnacle rising from 25 metres to just 8 metres below the surface off Hon Mot Island in the Nha Trang Marine Park. The pinnacle's exposed position in the current flow creates an ideal environment for sweeping soft coral growth that blankets the entire structure in vibrant oranges, purples, and yellows. Schools of snapper and glassfish swirl around the pinnacle in large aggregations, creating the fish-filled water column scenes that make this one of Nha Trang's most photogenic sites. Sweetlips shelter on the lee side of the formation while trevally and barracuda patrol the open water above, attracted by the concentration of prey species around the reef structure. The pinnacle's vertical relief creates varied microhabitats, from the brightly lit summit with hard corals and damselfish to the deeper base with gorgonians and sponges filtering the nutrient-rich current. The current flow that gives the site its dynamic character also delivers constant nutrients supporting the extraordinary soft coral growth and attracting pelagic visitors from the surrounding open water. Diving Electric Nose requires comfort with open-water environments and moderate current, but the rewards include some of Nha Trang's most dramatic underwater scenery and the best schooling fish encounters in the marine park.
