Moray Beach (Hon Mun) – Nha Trang Dive Site

Site Overview

Moray Beach on Hon Mun Island is named for its extraordinary population of giant moray eels that inhabit the massive boulder formations scattered across this productive reef site. At depths of 8 to 22 metres, enormous granite boulders create a labyrinth of crevices, swim-throughs, and overhangs that provide ideal habitat for multiple moray species. Giant morays exceeding two metres in length are regularly observed peering from their lairs, while smaller snowflake morays and zebra morays occupy narrower crevices throughout the formation. The boulder surfaces are heavily encrusted with coralline algae, sponges, and soft corals that add colour and texture to the dramatic geological formations. Lionfish hover in the shadows of overhangs with their ornate fins extended, while scorpionfish camouflage perfectly against the rocky substrate, making careful observation essential. Large groupers patrol the spaces between boulders, and schools of snapper and fusiliers stream through the currents above the formation. The moderate current exposure brings nutrients that support the rich marine community while adding excitement to the dive profile. The deeper sections at 18 to 22 metres host larger specimens and more diverse invertebrate communities, rewarding Advanced divers who manage their bottom time conservatively. Moray Beach represents one of Nha Trang's most engaging and wildlife-rich dive sites.
