The west Peloponnese eats from the gulf and the garden: grilled sardines, syskey (figs), and the local Mavrodafni and Roditis wines. Tavernas serve simple, hearty food with excellent olive oil. Across Peloponnese – West Coast (Patras, Corinthian Gulf), the table leans on olive oil, lemon, herbs and the day's catch, with grilled fish, horiatiki salad and slow-cooked stews appearing everywhere. Mezedes — small shared plates — are the social heart of an evening, best washed down with a chilled local white or ouzo. Vegetarians are well served by dishes built on wild greens, pulses and cheese, and bakeries turn out savoury pies through the day.

The western Peloponnese and the Corinthian Gulf are a quieter, more local diving region centred on Patras and the northern shore of the Peloponnese. The wreck of the Kefallinia, a passenger ferry sunk in 1944, lies at 25-35 m as a large, coral-encrusted artificial reef with groupers and conger eels. Aigio’s Mavrolimni is a brackish coastal lake used for training, and Kyparissia’s reef is a gently sloping hard-coral-like algal formation rich in fish and turtles. The Corinth Canal itself is not a recreational dive site because of currents and walls, but it remains a unique spectacle. With easy road access from Athens and Patras, this region suits divers who want wrecks, training and a relaxed, authentic Greek setting.

Drive from Athens (about 2 hours) or fly into Patras (the city is the gateway to the west). A rental car covers Patras, Aigio and Kyparissia; dive centres run harbour transfers on the Corinthian Gulf.
