The Westfjords are Iceland at its wildest: remote peninsulas, deep fjords and virtually untouched cold-water reefs. Ísafjarðardjúp offers pristine visibility of 20–30 m with massive anemone fields, sea cucumbers, nudibranchs, halibut and wolffish, and kayak-accessible wall dives. Patreksfjörður and Tálknafjörður hold old fishing-boat wrecks, giant scallop beds and seal colonies. Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is completely untouched Arctic-type kelp with urchin barrens and the occasional whale near the surface—expedition diving only, with no infrastructure. Bíldudalur’s Sea Monster Museum reef is a small artificial reef and shallow trawler wreck for macro. This is committed, guide-led, cold-water diving for the truly adventurous. The region rewards careful planning and a drysuit, and its sites suit a range of cold-water experience levels.

Drive 5–6 hours from Reykjavik via Route 1 and the Westfjords roads, or fly to Ísafjörður (IFJ). Boat and kayak dives launch from Ísafjörður, Patreksfjörður and Bíldudalur with specialist guides; Hornstrandir is expedition-only.
