Regional Diversity
Papua New Guinea can be dived year-round, but the most settled conditions fall in the calm southeast season from April to November, when seas are calm, rainfall is lower, and visibility is at its best across most regions. The northwest monsoon from December to March brings heavier rain and choppier seas to some areas, though sheltered muck sites, house reefs, and wrecks remain diveable throughout. Liveaboard itineraries time the remote seamounts and atolls to the calm season, while manta rays, hammerheads, and whale sharks appear seasonally and are best targeted with local operator advice.
