Southern Dalmatia is a seafood and wine lover’s paradise. The Pelješac peninsula and Korčula produce Croatia’s most celebrated reds (Plavac Mali, Dingăč), while Ston is renowned for oysters and mussels. The sea supplies grilled fish, squid and octopus, and the islands add lamb and peka. Southern Dalmatia is Croatia’s most southerly and arguably most dramatic diving region, anchored by the walled city of Dubrovnik and the long Pelješac peninsula, and extending to the remote islands of Korčula, Mljet, Lastovo and the Elaphiti. The water here is among the clearest in the Adriatic, and the diving ranges from the giants of the wreck world - the 120 m Taranto and the destroyer Francesca da Rimini - to pristine walls, sea caves and cavern systems. Mljet National Park’s saltwater lakes offer calm, almost tropical training conditions, while Lastovo’s remote walls attract pelagic fish and the occasional dolphin. The region’s blend of history, island isolation and big wrecks makes it a favourite for experienced divers, yet there are also gentle reefs such as St. Mary’s at Lokrum for newcomers. With Dubrovnik’s international airport and a strong dive-centre scene, Southern Dalmatia combines bucket-list wreck diving with the romance of the southern islands.

Fly into Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), the regional hub with many international connections, or into Split (SPU) and take the coastal road or a ferry south. From Dubrovnik, ferries and catamarans reach the Elaphiti, Korčula, Mljet and Lastovo; a rental car plus ferry bookings covers the Pelješac peninsula and the islands.
